Ridingleaze Costcutters donation supports local families

Costcutters in Ridingleaze has made a donation of £880 to support vulnerable young people and families in the local area.

The funds have gone to the ‘Better Together’ project for local children who may be going through difficulties at home leading to anti-social behaviour or problems at school.  In the last year they have worked with 240 families in north Bristol.

Costcutter’s ‘making a difference locally’ scheme is where neighbourhood stores can choose a beneficiary for a donation from profits raised from selling specific products.

Better Together Project Worker in Lawrence Weston Mark Pepper said:

“This donation will go towards funding some trips and activities for families who may not have been out of the area for a long time.  I find that even a day out can help improve family communication and boost self-esteem.”

Costcutters store manager Amrik Gill said:

“I’m delighted that we could use funds raised through our charity scheme to help some of our local families.”

Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Clare Campion-Smith, said:

“Better Together have a proven track record of giving practical support to help young people with problems they are experiencing. They can also help families find out about services they may not know about, for instance providing support around parenting,  problems with school, financial advice and anything else that is causing a young person or their family difficulties in their day to day lives. This donation gives Better Together extra funds to boost their support for families in the area. I am very grateful to Costcutters for their support.”

Notes for Editors

1. For more information about the scheme visit www.makingadifferencelocally.com

2. Better Together run Common Assessment Framework (CAF) panels in north Bristol as a way of working with families where children have needs but do not meet thresholds for social services intervention.  The panel brings together health, social services, education, mental health and housing officers as appropriate with the family to map out steps that can be taken by all to improve the life of the child with the aim of preventing more expensive interventions by authorities if problems are allowed to escalate.
